Brotherhood

I woke up only at 2 today. It has certainly been a long time for me since I slept for 10 hrs. The last 2 weeks have only been about 6 hours on average everyday. Don’t get me wrong. Its not because I stayed up every night to study. Haha, you know that can never happen. It’s the soccer matches on TV that’s keeping me awake.

And so anyway, the first thing I did when I woke up (minus brushing teeth, wash face blah blah blah) was to head down to the market and rent the shows I have been aiming at the VCD rental stall. I rented ‘chong shang xun xiao’(hk drama serial) and also a Korean movie called Brotherhood.

Brotherhood does left a deep impression in me not just because of the story line, but also the love and loyalty between the 2 brothers in the movie. I am unsure of the names of these 2 actors but you are always able to see them on TV all the time.

The movie is set in the 50s where North Korea and South Korea are at war with each other. So brother 2(younger one) has been forced to be drafted into the army to fight against the North Koreans. Brother 1( elder one), who has always loved his younger brother more than anyone else volunteered himself to go along to the war. In the war, the elder brother volunteered himself into all sorts of dangerous missions which include planting mines at the enemy’s frontline and attacking the enemy’s fort. Bro 2 thought that his brother did all those so as to win the honor badge and for fame and glory. In the quest for glory, he had transformed into a heartless and cruel enemy who showed no mercy to his enemy. Even some of his peers died because of his blind quest for his individual glory. Little did brother 2 knew that his brother did all these so that he can request for his younger brother to leave the frontline and back home to continue his studies and to take care of the family. One line went like this, “ I hoped both of us can make it back alive. But if only one of us can make it, I want it to be you.” As the movie rattled on with endless bombing and limbs flying, the younger brother was thought to have died, killed by the people in his own camp. Other than that, brother 1’s fiancé was also killed by the southern soldiers after being suspected to be one of the communists. Brother1 became crazy overnight and even joined the Communists to fight against his own people. Brother 2 who knew that his brother did such a thing because he thought he was dead and risked his life into the communist’s camp and tried to bring his brother back. Little did he knew that his brother is already crazy and is now a killer machine and did not even recognized his own brother anymore…..

The movie is around 3 hours long and is also full of blood and gore. Its quite entertaining though and despite its duration, there wouldn’t be a part where you will feel like sleeping.
Much better than 2046 anyway.






If you can’t suit yourself to the environment, change the environment.
