Keano The Man

Recently I had just finished a book on one of my favorite football heroes of all time, Roy Keane. It was a biography written somewhere in 2002 or 2003 if I am not wrong. Keano, as most familiar people will call him, is the captain of Man Utd and the republic of Ireland. He is perhaps one of the most controversial figures in the football world ever. Some will refer him as a devil who always do things his way and have a hot temper to match. Those who truly knew him knew that most people don’t really understand him. The worst thing is he doesn’t care and finds no point to prove to other people the reason why he did such things. It is his winning mentality and never-say-die attitude which makes me really drawn to him. In some ways, I find a bit of myself in him (note: SOME hor…not all hor..I am not that great yet). Through this book, I began to understand more about the nature behind this talented football genius. It is not just about talent. It also involves sheer hard work and determination. It is a real pity that such personalities are almost extinct. Even at the moment when I see younger people picking up sports like basketball or soccer, all they can do is little tricks and pattern. They could be fantastic in making it look good, but not effective. Doubt my words? Look to the nearest CC at your house and you see those young punks trying to emulate Jordan or Kobe. Pattern many many, work done = 0. There are so many a times I see those people trying all those stupid stunts but yet couldn’t get the ball in. Don’t they know that 2 points is only counted when the ball has gone into the basket and not awarded by the panel board when you have done a good stunt. If you cannot even learn to walk, how can you expect to fly?

Having helped out in the coaching arena of my department’s soccer team, I realized that these mainly year ones also have the same problem. All they are looking forward is to play matches 11 a side. Yet the catch is they cannot even pass the ball to their own team mate properly. An 11 a side match always resulted in 22 people chasing after a ball and hoping that the ball will somehow end up in the net. These people don’t seem to be playing ball, it’s the ball which is playing them. I always believe that whatever sport you pick up, always start from the basics. And train your basics real hard. For example passing a ball in soccer. To me, I think that is the essential key to winning a game. It is only through good passing between you and your team mates can you manage to keep possession and control the game. Maybe someday these young punks should go to some place to watch how the veterans play. They should see how even without running so much, these uncles can allow their football to be so free flowing and efficient. Hopefully, these people will learn and do us proud by representing the department to beat teams from other departments.

A long jog is like your life. You can slow down, but you cannot stop. Once you stop, you are a goner

Yeah.. I agree. Too many people always wanna do fanciful pattern and back heels when they can't even pass the ball properly.

I've played with those uncles before and they sure could hold their own against a young team like mine at that time.

Next time we show them how to play football la. Now we can considered to be old birds already. Haha.
