Seven Swords

I went to see the show '7 swords' directed by Tsui Hark yesterday and boy, it was a hell of a big mistake. I almost slapped myself silly for watching that over 'Charlie and the chocolate factory'.

This story is about 3 people who went up to 'Tian Shan' or sky mountain(direct translation) to seek the help of a master to save the village who is in danger of being attacked by the imperial court.

The master then gave them a sword to each of the 3 and asked 4 of his disciples to join them to help save the village. Hence the origin of the 7 swords. Kao..like that form 7 swords liao..this is even lamer than my 'Romeo and Juliet'(previous post) lor. If it were me, I would have taken the sword and go yahoo auction sell liao lor. Imagine the price it could bring.

The fighting scenes aren't exactly that impressive. Several of them are quite short in fact. The only credit you can give is the make-up artist. Some of the make-up look really cool.

There was this particular scene where the traitor of the village killed all of his fellow villagers with a sword. I counted at least 20 of them. Full-grown up men with weapons in hand. All killed by the traitor. And guess what? This same traitor was later killed by several kids who used pebbles to throw at him and then finally killed by the village head's daughter who stabbed him. Tell me how cool that is. This traitor would have been shamed in hell. Imagine how his fellow's ghost mates would have laughed at him. "Wah..so hiong ar...1 person kill so many people and then killed by the kids' pebbles and then stabbed by someone who don't even dare to kill a chicken?"

Tsui's last movie was 'legend of Zu' 3 years ago. That was also a flop then. I thought he would have come up with something nicer after 3 years. I guess he will be taking another 3 years of rest. Or maybe retire for good. I would really have condemned this movie totally but Tsui saved himself by choosing Charlie Yeung for his female lead.

Rating: 4/10 (because of Charlie Yeung, without her it would have been only a miserable 3/10)
